Serving the Present Age

2018 General Baptist State Convention of NC

Spiritual Foundation

Matthew 28:18-20 (KJV)
“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

My dear baptist Friends,

Greetings in the matchless name of Jesus our Christ. Thank you for your vote and support in allowing me to serve as President of the GBSC of NC, Inc.

Our four-year theme is "Serving This Present Age". There are four areas of emphasis within the theme: Missions, Christian  education, Evangelism, & Technology.

It is my hope and prayer that we can have a positive impact on the local church, our associations, and the state wide body.

We are living in unique times, and the challenge facing the church is also unique. God has equipped us to answer this challenge.

I solicit your prayers and support as we move forward together, “Serving This Present Age”.

Because of Calvary,

Leonzo D. Lynch

A charge to keep I have,
A God to glorify,
A never-dying soul to save,
And fit it for the sky.
To serve the present age,
My calling to fulfill:
O may it all my powers engage
To do my Master’s will!
Arm me with jealous care,
As in Thy sight to live;
And O Thy servant, Lord, prepare
A strict account to give!
Help me to watch and pray,
And on Thyself rely,
Assured, if I my trust betray,
I shall for ever die.

(Words by Charles Wesley, Short Hymns on Select Passages of Holy Scripture, 1762.)
The lyrics are based on Matthew Henry’s commentary on Leviticus:

“Keep the charge of the Lord, that ye die not.” Leviticus 8:35
“We have every one of us a charge to keep, an eternal God to glorify, an immortal soul to provide for, needful duty to be done, our generation to serve; and it must be our daily care to keep this charge, for it is the charge of the Lord our Master, who will shortly call us account about it, and it is our utmost peril if we neglect it. Keep it “that ye die not”; it is death, eternal death, to betray the trust that we are charged with; by the consideration of this we must be kept in awe.”
